ESPR (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation)

Last updated 1 June 2026

The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (EU) 2024/1781, known as ESPR, is the EU framework regulation that sets ecodesign requirements for products and establishes the horizontal legal basis for the digital product passport. It empowers the Commission to adopt product-specific delegated acts setting performance and information requirements and DPP obligations for successive product groups. ESPR provides the general DPP architecture, while the Battery Regulation (2023/1542) delivers the first concrete, mandatory passport ahead of ESPR’s own product passports.
