Recycled content

Last updated 1 June 2026

Recycled content under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 is the share of cobalt, lithium, nickel, and lead in a battery’s active materials that is recovered from waste. The Regulation requires that industrial batteries above 2 kWh, EV batteries, and SLI batteries containing these materials be accompanied by documentation of recycled content, with minimum recovered-material targets phasing in on dates set by the Regulation and its delegated acts. Recycled content information is part of the data surfaced through the battery passport.
