Step 1 — Is your battery in scope?
- LMT battery (e-bike, e-scooter, etc.) → in scope.
- Industrial battery above 2 kWh (incl. stationary storage) → in scope.
- Electric-vehicle battery → in scope.
- Portable consumer battery (AA, coin cells) → not in scope for the passport.
Step 2 — Are you the responsible operator?
The obligation falls on whoever places the battery on the EU market. If you manufacture in the EU, or import from outside it, that is you. Distributors further down the chain are generally not the responsible operator for creating the passport.
Step 3 — Is it placed on the market after 18 Feb 2027?
If yes, and steps 1 and 2 are also yes, you need a passport for each individual battery. If you sell before the deadline, you do not yet — but the date is close, so prepare now.
Unsure about your specific case? Our scope checker walks through these questions interactively, and our pricing has no minimum, so you can start with a single passport.
