A battery management system (BMS) is the electronic system that monitors and manages a rechargeable battery, controlling parameters such as cell voltages, temperature, current, and state of charge to keep the battery within safe operating limits. Under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, LMT, industrial (above 2 kWh), and electric vehicle batteries must record data needed to determine state of health and expected lifetime, and that data must be accessible to authorised parties so it can feed into the battery passport.
