Under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 an electric vehicle battery is a battery specifically designed to provide traction in hybrid or electric vehicles of categories L, M, N, and O, and which is not a portable or LMT battery. EV batteries are subject to the strictest set of requirements, including the carbon footprint declaration, recycled content requirements, performance and durability rules, and the battery passport obligation that applies from 18 February 2027.
