An LMT battery, as defined in Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, is a battery in vehicles that can be powered by an electric motor alone or by a combination of motor and human power and that have a maximum weight below the threshold set in the Regulation — typically electric bikes, scooters, and similar light means of transport. LMT batteries are explicitly named in Article 77(1) and must carry a battery passport from 18 February 2027, regardless of capacity.
