Recycled content targets for batteries

Batteries must declare the share of recycled cobalt, lead, lithium and nickel in their active materials. Declaration comes first, then minimum thresholds tighten from around 2031 onward.

Last updated 1 June 2026

The regulation introduces recycled-content rules for the key active materials in batteries: cobalt, lead, lithium and nickel. First comes mandatory declaration of the recycled share; later, minimum recycled-content thresholds apply and rise over time.

The recycled-content figures you declare for compliance are the same figures the passport surfaces publicly — collect them once.
