Legitimate interest

Legitimate interest is the access tier in Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 that lets defined parties — such as repairers, remanufacturers, second-life operators, and recyclers — see more detailed battery passport data than the general public, without being a market surveillance authority or the Commission. Annex XIII specifies which data attributes are reserved for persons with a legitimate interest. The tier is intended to support repair, reuse, and recycling while keeping commercially or security-sensitive data out of fully public view.
