Regulation

TermMeaning here
Battery passportThe electronic record of one physical battery required by Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. In the API: a passport, one per battery item.
Article 77The article that creates the passport. 77(1): one per individual battery. 77(7): a repurposed or remanufactured battery gets a new passport linked to the old. 77(8): the passport ceases when the battery is recycled.
Annex XIIIThe list of passport content, in four points. Point 1 public information; Point 2 information for persons with a legitimate interest and authorities; Point 3 authority-only information such as test-report results; Point 4 battery-specific data, including dynamic data such as state of health.
Access tierWho may see a data point, following Annex XIII: PUBLIC (Point 1), LEGITIMATE_INTEREST (Points 2 and 4) and AUTHORITY (Point 3). Enforced on the server; the public resolver serves PUBLIC only.
Legitimate interestThe standing of repairers, remanufacturers, second-life operators and recyclers to access more than the public tier.
Unique identifierThe string that identifies one physical battery (ISO/IEC 15459). In the API: uniqueIdentifier, C- + 11 characters. Never changes.
UPI (unique product identifier)The identifier a passport is registered under in the EU DPP Registry (Impl. Reg. (EU) 2026/1778 Art. 8). The Registry requires a URL starting with https://, at most 50 characters, that resolves to the hosted passport — the reason identifiers are kept short.
Data carrierThe QR code (ISO/IEC 18004) on the battery that encodes the resolver URL. In the API: GET /passports/{id}/qr.svg.
Economic operatorThe organisation responsible for the battery and its passport — your organisation. In the API: responsibleOrgId.
Placing on the marketMaking a battery available on the EU market for the first time. In the API: placedOnMarketAt; Point 4(a) values are measured at this moment.
State of healthThe battery’s condition relative to new. EV: state of certified energy. LMT: remaining capacity, power capability, round-trip efficiency. In the API: SOH_READING events.
RepurposingA battery gets a second life for a different purpose. In the API: PATCH /passports/{id}/status with REPURPOSED, which forks a linked passport.
Declaration of conformityThe EU Declaration of Conformity, a required document (Annex XIII 1(r)). In the API: a document of type "EU Declaration of Conformity".
Notified body / market surveillance authorityThe authorities with access to Point 3 data.
Battery categoriesEV, LMT and industrial batteries above 2 kWh need a passport. In the API: category.
